I chose Timothy O’Sullivan to reflect on. I chose Timothy O’Sullivan because he shoots war and landscape photos. The photos he shot during the war were incredibly old but still very easily definable. His pictures were shot between the years 1863 and 1873. I believe he is a remarkably interesting photographer because at the beginning of his career he shot gruesome war photos and became more innocent because towards the end he shot nice photos of mountains and canyons. It’s as if he found it more satisfying taking pictures of more innocent things. My favorite photo he shot was the Black Canyon one of 1871. I like this one because of how great the resolution is, it is as if someone got a modern phone camera and took this and just put a tint on it. What it lacks in color it makes up for in quality and its not just the Black Canyon photo, all the pictures he takes are high resolution, and a low amount of pixels. It gives an eerie vibe because of the lone person getting ready for what it seems to be fishing. Although scary it could also give a good vibe such as this man will work hard all by himself. His first photo was in Gettysburg Pennsylvania titled A Harvest of Death took place in 1863. His last photo was in 1873 titled Ancient Ruins which was in New Mexico, The Canyon De Chelle. He only took 12 photos in his short 10-year career. One thing I noticed about him was that he enjoyed photographing canyons and rocks because more than half of his pictures were either rocky landscapes or canyons. Most of his work was done in the west because that is where it is more dry and hot which makes it easier for him to take pictures of barren desolate rocky canyons.
